Pseudolithos miguritinus

I got these seeds from the CSSA. I was very happy to discover them on their seed list as pseudolithos seeds appear to be otherwise quite expensive. They were sown directly on top of my normal pumice/cactus mix. I since learned from the original research article on the genus https://www.jstor.org/stable/pdf/42792004.pdf?seq=1 that they do best sown with the pointy end pushed into the soil.

This photo was taken on Day 6 after germination. Four days after the seedlings came up, I added the white topdressing. Great germination rate, plus an extra bonus plant. I should probably get rid of it before it becomes a problem.

6/9 Update: all the plants are alive still. Wrinkles coming in. Definitely bigger than when they started.

Winter 2019 Germination

As usual I don’t know how to do moderation, so I have started a lot of seeds over the past couple weeks. They’re in a covered seed tray on a heat mat in the basement, 12 hrs a day of two T5 lights with a bit of “shade cloth” as well. Temps vary between low 60s and mid high 70s in the humidity dome. The cacti/succulents are mostly in 75 or 80% 1/64 – 1/8 inch pumice (Scenic Hill Farms) mixed with 25 or 20% Black Gold cactus mix. Thin layer of fine sifted cactus mix on top, then seeds sown on top.

Update 1/4 — went up to 4 lights but with shade cover, got high T closer to 82 ambient. Also added more water to base to up humidity

1/20 — tried a very slightly acidified solution on the non germinated aztekium / astrophytum.

Adromischus cristatus “Crinkle-Leaf Plant”

12/31 Update: I took this leaf from my mom’s plant in Summer (?) 2018, and it’s been slowly propagating since. The original leaf is surprisingly long-lived, 1.5 years later and it still hasn’t deflated. The plant is in 100% Bonsai Jack mix, which I have feel dries out way too quickly. That being said, the plant looks fine, I just have to remember to keep up with fertilizer.

Crassula var. Buddha’s Temple

12/31 Update: I bought this one off of Etsy from RJCactus in Summer 2019. I let it go without water until the leaves are all wrinkly. After the most recent dry spell, and soaking in water with some added fertilizer, there was quick growth of new pups… and what looks like a flower bud on the way!

There’s some brown discoloration on the leaves. My current theories are: too much or too little water, too much or too of the grow lights, or perhaps too much or too little fertilizer. I once used a fertilizer high in N, which I now know is not appropriate for succulents…

6/9 Update: Well I got that totally wrong, and instead of a flower this plant now has a million pups. It got slightly etiolated unfortunately.
